My Mascara Routine

June 29, 2020 Caroline Tullis
Adjustments.jpeg

Happy Monday, y’all! Today I thought I would share with you guys my mascara routine. It’s super simple and is a great way to make your lashes look more natural when wearing mascara! I got this idea for a post from one of my favorite bloggers Daryl-Ann Denner and her post about her mascara routine, which inspired me to share my own routine! When it comes to making makeup look more natural, mascara is truly the main essential (lipstick if you’re feeling a little bold!). If you’re looking for a simple and easy way to make your lashes look more long and glamorous, you came to the right place my friend!

Step 1: Eyelash Curler

No joke, I used to be afraid to use eyelash curlers. I have a weird thing about my eyes, and for the longest time I was worried about accidentally poking them when curling my eyelashes 😂 Thankfully, I’ve overcome that fear and can now use a eyelash curler without hesitation! Sometimes I don’t use it just depending on the kind of day, but it’s definitely a great way to give your lashes more length prior to putting on mascara.

Step 2: L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Primer Mascara

I use this right before mascara as a first coat for my lashes (I use them for the top only, but you can certainly use them for bottom lashes as well!). I discovered primer a few years ago and now I use it practically every time I wear mascara! It’s a great way to lengthen and volumize them, especially since mine aren’t naturally super long.

Step 3: Better Than Sex Mascara

I’ve been using Better Than Sex Mascara for a long time now because it’s one of my absolute favorite makeup products. Y’all, it’s the best mascara I’ve ever used and I highly recommend it to get a voluptuous and glam look for your lashes. Better yet, it’s the #1 best-selling mascara in the USA, so that should definitely convince you! It’s SO worth the purchase 😉

Step 4: Lash Comb

I can thank Daryl-Ann Denner for this. It’s easily one of the best purchases I ever made on a makeup utensil! Better yet, it was only around $5! After I started using this lash comb, my lashes have never looked better. Not only do they get rid of clumps but also make it look like you have more lashes!

I hope this post inspires and helps you out with your own mascara routine. Comment below and share your thoughts!

Trendy Pastel Manicure (Olive + June Superbloom Kit)

It’s officially springtime, y’all! Then before we know it it’ll be summertime ... then it’ll be fall ... then it’ll be Christmas ... then it’ll be springtime once again ... HOW DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN???

There’s honestly nothing that I despise about spring. I love everything from the mild weather to the blooming flowers to the green leaves growing on trees to being able to walk barefoot in the grass … pretty much everything about it! I’m just a girl who likes to find the beauty in every season (even though I’m not a fan of winter, I love it at Christmastime!). And when spring is in the air, nothing gets me more excited than a fresh colorful manicure! Even though nail salons may be closed at the moment, nothing stops me from trying one out at home! The wonderful ladies at Olive + June were more than kind enough to send me their new superbloom set, their latest manicure kit for the season of spring. The kit comes with their new six shades: sheer white, sheer pink, sheer tan, sage green, pinky lavender and sunny yellow, as well as a top coat. Pretty much all of the pretty pastel colors that you can dream of for springtime!

Obviously when you receive this amount of fun colors to try out on your nails, it’s hard to choose just one to start with! However, I’ve been obsessed with the multicolored manicure aka “all of them” trend, which you’ve probably seen all over Pinterest and Instagram. It’s perfect when you can’t decide on one color … literally just use all of them! And it’s perfect to try out with Olive + June’s superbloom set. I tested the colors on my nails for Easter this past Sunday, and I absolutely loved the results. It’s like looking at a pastel collection or a bunch of colorful flowers! Needless to say, I’m very grateful for Olive + June and this beautiful kit to help me get pumped for springtime. Pastels for the win!

Galentine's With Olive + June

GALENTINE’S PARTAAAYYY!!!! Minus Leslie, Ann, April, and Donna.

There’s only TWO days left till Galentine’s Day aka one of the best holidays ever! If you’re not familiar, it’s basically just another version of Valentine’s Day but instead celebrating your closest and most beloved lady friends, single or not. Just watch Parks and Recreation and you’ll understand where I’m coming from. But ANYWAY, in honor of this special day for the ladies, Olive + June was generous enough to send me and my roommates 5 full boxes of 25 colors of nail polish for us to have our own Galentine’s manicure party. That’s right, 25 SHADES OF NAIL POLISH to choose from! I mean, what better way to celebrate your gal pals?! Take that, Leslie Knope!

I still love you though, Leslie.

If you’re not familiar with Olive + June, they’re an L.A.-based nail salon known for their in-house brand of good quality nail polish, as well as their manicure box sets. They’ve been featured in a variety of positive reviews in media outlets including Vogue, People, InStyle, and many more. And they just announced that they’re going to be selling their nail polishes in every local Target now, which, as a Target junkie myself, is SO exciting! So next time you’re on a Target trip, go check out their collections and treat yo self with some new colors for your nails! Because it’s impossible to go to Target without getting just one thing, am I right?! 😂

Anyway, as soon as the boxes arrived, my roommates and I immediately threw an early Galentine’s party to try out the different given shades. There were so many colors and ideas to choose to play around with. There’s no better time to whip out the phone for some Pinterest inspiration, am I right?! It’s always so difficult to pick what color to paint your nails for a manicure, especially when there’s literally 25 colors to choose from. But thankfully, it’s possible (and cute) to paint them by using multiple colors! One of my favorite trends going on right now are the ombre nails, in which you paint your pinky finger thumb nails the same color and three different but matchable colors for the remaining three. I decided to paint mine by following the trend as well as taking a little Valentine’s inspiration with light pink, red, nude and sparkly copper (for the ring finger, of course!). My roommates mixed and matched their nails as well. The more colors the better!
